Your Invisalign® aligner is strong and durable. However, that doesn’t mean you need to stop taking care of it. In fact, there are things you need to do to keep your aligner in tip-top shape so you don’t run into complications during your orthodontic treatment. To help you properly care for your aligner, Dr. Dwayne Patritto has some tips for you.
First, when you remove your aligner for the day, rinse it under water. This will wash away the saliva that is on the appliance and help you avoid dental issues. Then, put the aligner in a cup full of appliance cleaner, like denture cleaner or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals. Let the aligner soak for the recommended amount of time. This can help remove the plaque that has built up on the appliance.
Second, make sure to deeply clean your smile before you put the aligner back in your mouth. You can do this by brushing, flossing, and rinsing. Cleaning your teeth is important because if you don’t, bacteria will be wedged between the teeth and aligner all day, which is exactly where the bacteria want to be because it will give them time to attack the enamel.
Third, rinse your aligner with clear antibacterial soap throughout the day. This is an inexpensive way to keep your appliance fresh and clean.
